Little Lies – Fleetwood Mac

One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. What’s unusual about it is that Christine McVie takes center stage, while Stevie Nicks does background vocals. Kinda makes sense, after all is Christine’s song. I have seen them live, at Madison Square Garden, on their “The Dance” tour, in 1997, with their most successful lineup: Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buchingham, Stevie Nicks, John McVie, Christine McVie.

A bit of trivia: the huge Santana success Black Magic Woman is a cover of a single released by Fleetwood Mac on their first album, way back in 1968.
Here is the clip. You be the judge which version sounds better. I like them both.

Lyrics:

If I could turn the page
In time then I’d rearrange just a day or two
Close my, close my, close my eyes

But I couldn’t find a way
So I’ll settle for one day to believe in you
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies

Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies

Although I’m not making plans
I hope that you understand there’s a reason why
Close your, close your, close your eyes

No more broken hearts
We’re better off apart let’s give it a try
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies

Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies

If I could turn the page
In time then I’d rearrange just a day or two
Close my, close my, close my eyes

But I couldn’t find a way
So I’ll settle for one day to believe in you
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies

Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)

Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me, tell me lies)

Versuri:

Refren(x2):
Ouououoou, e vara-vara, e soare afara
Ouououoou, e vara-vara iara.

I:
E vara iar, ce n-am dreptate ?
Fete, fete si de toate
Chefuri, chefuri cat se poate
Ce sa zic, e ce-mi doresc
Soare mult sa ma prajesc
Da, da, da, e vara, da
Da, da, da, e vara ta
E vara si nu pot sa cred
Genius canta la mare
Discoteca-e cea mai tare
Tine cheful cel mai mare
Hai cu noi, da’ doar cu noi
Chef, uitare-i pentru voi.

Refren(x2):..

II:
E vara afar’ si pentru voi
E soare, e tare, e vara in doi
E vara afar’ si pentru voi
E tare, la mare danseaza cu noi.
III:
E vara, e afara, cantam cu totii
Este soare afara.
IV:
E vara iar, ce n-am dreptate ?
Fete, fete si de toate
Chefuri, chefuri cat se poate
Ce sa zic, e ce-mï doresc
Soare mult sa ma prajesc
Da, da, da, e vara, da
Da, da, da, e vara ta
Peste tot e vara ta.

Syrup & Honey – Duffy

A recording session video of Duffy putting all her heart and soul into a fantastic blues performance. Feel your heart warming as the image transitions from black and white to color. A voice and a guitar. Who needs more.

Lyrics:

Don’t you be wastin’ all your money
On syrup and honey because I’m sweet enough
Don’t you be usin’ every minute on makin’ a livin’
Because we got our love

Listen to me 1, 2, 3
Baby, baby, baby
Spend your time on me

Don’t you be out all night long leavin’ me all alone
Because I, I need your love
Don’t you be spendin’ every day workin’ away
Because I’m waitin’ for you

Listen to me 1, 2, 3
Baby, baby, baby
Spend your time on me

Spend it, spend it, spend it
Your time on me
Please baby, please baby

Rumble – Link Wray

One of the coolest rock songs that you’ve probably never heard. And it’s not just the song that’s cool, but Link Wray himself. Long sideburns, dark sunglasses, leather jacket, and an attitude. An attitude that got this song banned from radio stations across the country, even if it has no lyrics. Take the lyrics away from any popular song, see what’s left.

And a supreme homage to Link Wray and his Rumble, the great Jimmy Page playing air guitar while listening to the vinyl. Priceless.

The scene is from the movie It Might Get Loud, a must see for every rock music fan.

Still Got The Blues – Gary Moore

A Gibson guitar, a Marshall amplifier, and a Jimi Hendrix poster on the wall – every kid’s dream of becoming a rock star. It worked for Gary. They should have buried his guitar next to him, like they should have buried Paganini’s violin next to him. There will be no other human to play them so well. I hope I’m wrong. 🙂

Stillgottheblues

Lyrics:

Used to be so easy to give my heart away
But I found out the hard way
There’s a price you have to pay
I found out that love, was no friend of mine
I should have known time after time

So long, it was so long ago
But I’ve still got the blues for you

Used to be so easy to fall in love again
But I found out the hard way
It’s a road that leads to pain
I found that love, was more than just a game
You’re playin’ to win, but you lose just the same

So long, it was so long ago
But I’ve still got the blues for you

So many years, since I’ve seen your face
But here in my heart, there’s an empty space
Where you used to be

So long, it was so long ago
But I’ve still got the blues for you

Though the days come and go
There is one thing I know
I’ve still got the blues for you
