It’s been a year of beautiful songs.
I hope they gave you as much joy as I got listening to them.
Here they are, all 367 of them, waiting for you to listen again.

Imagine – John Lennon

A song is usually followed by another song, but this is the one that can only be followed by silence. The silence of painful truth.

Lyrics:

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Just In Time – Nina Simone

Click, click, click, click, just in time for your birthday!
Happy birthday, and make sure you’re gonna miss that plane.

Lyrics:

Let’s go
Just in time you’ve found me just in time
Before you came my time was running low
I was lost the losing dice were tossed

My bridges all were crossed nowhere to go
Now you hear now I know just where I’m going
No more doubt of fear I’ve found my way
For love came just in time you’ve found me just in time
And changed my lonely nights that lucky day

Just in time
Before you came my time was running low oh baby
I was lost the losing dice were tossed
My bridges all crossed nowhere to go
Now you hear now I know just where I’m going

No more doubt of fear I’ve found my way
For love came just in time you’ve found me just in time
And changed my lonely nights and changed my lonely nights
And changed my lonely nights and changed my lonely nights
And changed my lonely nights that lucky day

Lost – Coldplay

It’s not about the song, really, it’s about the movie, The Way, and the pilgrimage we all want to make once in our lifetime, the one that’s supposed to clear up the path in front of us, and teach us who we are and where we’re going. You could go to Santiago de Compostela, down the beaten path, or you can make your own path. The first step is what counts, and then the next, and the next, until you reach your destination, hopefully wiser.

Lyrics:

Just because I’m losing
Doesn’t mean I’m lost
Doesn’t mean I’ll stop
Doesn’t mean I’m across

Just because I’m hurting
Doesn’t mean I’m hurt
Doesn’t mean I didn’t get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I tried to cross
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off

You might be a big fish in a little pond
Doesn’t mean you’ve won
‘Cause along may come a bigger one

And you’ll be lost
Every river that you tried to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the firing’s stopped
Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off

Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off
Oh and I’m just waiting ’til the shine wears off

Wake Me Up – Avicii

A beautiful song of this past summer, and a tattoo motif that reminded me that Banksy is in New York and will reveal an art project every day. Check the website, and if you are in the city, go see them for real (except for Dumbo – might be hazardous to your life): Better Out Than In.

Lyrics:

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start

They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by me

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don’t have any plans

Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

Didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know (didn’t know, didn’t know)

The Number One Song In Heaven – Sparks

For all Alan Partridge fans out there, wherever you are, the movie’s out, and it’s as good as you would expect it to be. No, I take that back, it’s actually better. I literally had tears of laughter in my eyes. Watch the trailer here Alan Partridge Alpha Papa Trailer.

Lyrics:

This is the number one song in heaven
Written, of course, by the mightiest hand
All of the angels are sheep in the fold of their master
They always follow the Master and his plan

This is the number one song in heaven
Why are you hearing it now, you ask
Maybe you’re closer to here than you imagine
Maybe you’re closer to here than you care to be
It’s number one, all over heaven
It’s number one, all over heaven
It’s number one, all over heaven
The number one song all over heaven

If you should die before you wake
If you should die while crossing the street
The song that you’ll hear, I guarantee

It’s number one, all over heaven
It’s number one, all over heaven
It’s number one, all over heaven
The number one song all over heaven

The one that’s the rage up here in the clouds
Loud s a crowd or soft as a doubt
Lyrically weak, but the music’s the thing

Gabriel plays it,
God how he plays it
Gabriel plays it,
God how he plays it
Gabriel plays it,
God how he plays it
Gabriel plays it, let’s hear him play it

The song filters down, down through the clouds
It reaches the earth and winds all around
And then it breaks up in millions of ways

It goes la, la, la……

In cars it becomes a hit
In your homes it becomes advertisements
And in the streets it becomes the children singing…
