Wonderful Life – Black

The perfect song for a morning coffee with your friends. I know, I know, it’s Monday, but there’s no need to rush, just enjoy the wonderful life.

Lyrics:

Here I go out to sea again
The sunshine fills my hair
And dreams hang in the air

Gulls in the sky and in my blue eyes
You know it feels unfair
There’s magic everywhere

Look at me standing
Here on my own again
Up straight in the sunshine

No need to run and hide
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life
No need to laugh and cry
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life

Sun’s in your eyes the heat is in your hair
They seem to hate you
Because you’re there

And I need a friend, oh, I need a friend
To make me happy
Not stand here on my own

Look at me standing
Here on my own again
Up straight in the sunshine

No need to run and hide
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life
No need to laugh and cry
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life

I need a friend, oh, I need friend
To make me happy
Not so alone

Look at me here
Here on my own again
Up straight in the sunshine

No need to run and hide
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life
No need to hide and cry
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life

No need to run and hide
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life
No need to run and hide
It’s a wonderful, wonderful life

Wonderful life
It’s a wonderful life

What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction

Wait a second, what’s going on here. Well, it’s a birthday special request, and it’s a beautiful song too, so I guess, business as usual. Happy Birthday, A!

Lyrics:

You’re insecure,
Don’t know what for,
You’re turning heads when you walk through the door,
Don’t need make-up,
To cover up,
Being the way that you are is enough,

Everyone else in the room can see it,
Everyone else but you,

Baby you light up my world like nobody else,
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed,
But when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell,
You don’t know,
Oh, oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,
If only you saw what I can see,
You’d understand why I want you so desperately,
Right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe,
You don’t know,
Oh, oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,
Oh, oh,
That’s what makes you beautiful

So c-come on.
You got it wrong.
To prove I’m right
I put it in a song.
I don’t know why
You’re being shy,
And turn away when I look into your eye-eye-eyes,

Everyone else in the room can see it,
Everyone else but you,

Baby you light up my world like nobody else,
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed,
But when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell,
You don’t know,
Oh oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,
If only you saw what I can see,
You’ll understand why I want you so desperately,
Right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe,
You don’t know,
Oh oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,
Oh oh,

That’s what makes you beautiful

Na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na

Baby you light up my world like nobody else,
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed,
But when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell,

You don’t know,
Oh oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,

Baby you light up my world like nobody else,
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed,
But when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell,
You don’t know,
Oh oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful (Oh),
If only you saw what I can see,
You’ll understand why I want you so desperately ([Harry:] desperately),
Right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe,
You don’t know,
Oh oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,
Oh oh,
You don’t know you’re beautiful,
Oh oh,

That’s what makes you beautiful

Crazy On You – Heart

The Wilson sisters, Nancy and Ann, still rock, after so many years and so many good songs. Funny, for some time I only knew their songs from Dida Dragan covers, back in Romania. I thought at the time, wow Dida really got some nice songs going on…

I could not pass on this one, two of my favorite bands, Led Zeppelin and Heart, united for a performance at the Kennedy Center, honoring Led Zeppelin, in 2012.

Lyrics:

We may still have time
We might still get by
Every time I think about it I want to cry
With the bombs and the devils
And the kids keep coming
Nowhere to breathe easy…no time to be young
But I tell myself that I’m doing alright
There’s nothing left to do tonight but go crazy on you

My love is the evening breeze touching your skin
The gentle sweet singing of leaves in the wind
The whisper that calls, after you in the night
And kisses your ear in the early light
You don’t need to wonder, you’re doing fine
And my love, the pleasure’s mine
Let me go crazy on you

Wild man’s world is crying in pain
What you gonna do when everybody’s insane
So afraid of fortune, so afraid of you
What you gonna do?
Crazy on you, let me go crazy on you
I was willow last night in my dream
I bent down over a clear running stream
I sang you the song that i heard up above
And you keep me alive with your sweet flowing love
Crazy, crazy on you,
Let me go crazy, crazy on you

Enjoy the Silence – Depeche Mode

Everybody loves the song, but what makes this video special is that is filmed at the top of one of the Twin Towers in New York City. I’ve been there, and the view was absolutely fantastic. Proud of my home town for the past 20 years or so.

Lyrics:

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can’t you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Enjoy the silence

Sultans of Swing – Dire Straits

One of my all time favorite songs, that goes way back to my high school years, and first heard on short waves radio, listening to Radio Free Europe. Mark Knopfler wrote the song while listening to a mediocre jazz band playing into a deserted Ipswich pub. At the end of their performance, the lead singer comes up to the microphone and announces that they were the “Sultans of Swing”. Good thing Mark was paying attention. I hope they got a bit of credit for that.

Lyrics:

You get a shiver in the dark,
It’s raining in the park, but meantime:
South of the river, you stop and you hold everything.
A band is blowin’ Dixie, double-four time.
You feel alright when you hear that music play.

You step inside, but you don’t see too many faces.
Comin’ in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down.
Competition in other places…
But the horns, they blowin’ that sound.
Way on down south,
Way on down south, London-town

Check out Guitar George, he knows all the chords.
But it’s strictly rhythm; he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing.
If any old guitar is all he can afford,
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing.

And Harry doesn’t mind if he doesn’t make the scene.
He’s got a daytime job, he’s doing alright.
He can play the honky tonk like anything,
Savin’ it up for Friday night.
With the Sultans,
With the Sultans of Swing

Wicked Game – Chris Isaak

A song that became popular just because an Atlanta radio station music director was obsessed with director David Lynch, and the song was featured on the music score of the freshly released Wild at Heart. Looks like David Lynch himself was obsessed with Chris Isaak, as two of his songs were used before in the cult classic movie Blue Velvet, a movie with none other than agent Cooper of Twin Peaks, Kyle MacLachlan. There’s a way of talented people finding each other.

Lyrics:

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It’s strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I’d meet somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I’d lose somebody like you.

No, I don’t want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don’t want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)

What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you.
What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you and,

I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you.

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It’s strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I’d love somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I’d lose somebody like you,

No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I… (This world is only gonna break your heart)
(This world is only gonna break your heart)

Nobody loves no one.
